During your stay

The cheapest way to get to the Dormitory from the Airport or Main Railway Station is to use a bus or a tram.

There is a very useful website jakdojade.pl which will help you in finding your way. You just need to fill out a start point (for Airport put: PORT LOTNICZY, for main railway Station: DWORZEC GŁ. PKP) and a destination field and the program will find your connection and time of departure.

You can, of course, take a taxi, the cost is around 15€ or 20€ from the airport to the city centre and 5€ or 10€ from the main station. It is better to ask about the price before you take a taxi just to avoid dishonest drivers.

Wro Airport Express Bus

There is also a direct bus that goes between the airport and the main bus station with a stop in the city centre (pl. Domninikański). It goes every 50 minutes, and the ride takes about half an hour. A single ticket costs 10zł and you can pay by cash or card in PLN or EURO. Timetable

Student ID Card

Student ID card (Legitymacja studencka) is the most important document for each student. You need legitymacja to borrow books from the libraries, to obtain discounts on public transport, cinema and museum tickets etc. You can get your legitymacja in the Dean's Office of your Faculty (Dziekanat) once the academic year officially commences and you register in the International Office.

Student identity card entitles to a 50% discount on public transport in the city and a 51% discount on national railways (only when under the age of 26).

It costs 22PLN and you can pay for it only via bank transfer or at the post office using the special slip payment. It is different for each student and you need to download it from your USOSweb account: Student's Section --> Payments --> Uncleared Debts --> Download Payments Slip. When you get the stamp from the post office or bank on your slip payment you need to present it in your Dean's Office to get your student ID card. Please make sure that you will check the available office hours with them before.

EU and EFTA citizens

EU citizens are eligible for free healthcare once they present their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for which they should apply in their own country before coming to Poland. Remember that not every institution provides free services – the provider of free healthcare is Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (NFZ) and you must search for places that allow you to use those services.

It’s worth remembering that EHIC card provides help ONLY in the unplanned emergency situations.

Voluntary health insurance

Any student can sign up for NFZ voluntary health insurance. It’s not free (costs 55,80 PLN monthly) but it allows to use free healthcare system in Poland outside of emergency situations as well.

For more information about health insurance check here.

You will get a list from the teacher where you need to write your name, surname and OBLIGATORY your INDEKS number to register for the course. Be sure to ask the teacher about it!

Attention: The process of signing up for the classes may be different at each department. To get details about the procedure please contact the respective coordinators.

There is one exception! For the courses from The Master of International Relations, you can apply only on-line! http://www.gs.uni.wroc.pl/user/register (as far as there are any vacancies available) See the details on the timetable on our website.

USOSweb account

USOSweb is an individual account where you can download the slip payment for your student ID card, check if you are registered for the courses you've signed in and check your grades at the end of each semester.

It's very important to check at the end of the first month of the semester if the courses you have chosen and signed in had appeared on your account. If some classes are missing, you must report it directly to the respective teacher or your Dean's Office (Dziekanat) or the Secretary's office of your Institute.

Your LOGIN is your our student's ID number. For the first login, you must request a new password. The system will ask you for the e-mail address. Please enter the same e-mail address you used to create your account on our website.

To log in please enter this website.

It is advisable to login into Office 365 (https://portal.uwr.edu.pl/en/) before using eduroam, to make sure that your password is correct and your account is fully functional.

Public transport and URBANCARD

Wroclaw has an extensive public transport network. There are trams as well as buses in the whole city and outside of it. More popular lines can run even every 10 minutes. Trams stop running at night (around 11p.m.) but there are more options with different kinds of buses. There are daytime normal routes from 100 do 149, and express routes, designated by red letters: A, C, D, E, K, and N. Suburban routes are numbered 604 to 623. Night routes are designated by black numbers from 240 to 259; night buses run only once an hour.

For regularly updated public transport schedules please check Wrocław’s official website.

Tickets are available at the automated ticket machines that you can find at all the biggest tram and bus stops in the city. Once you buy the ticket, you have to validate it in the vehicle. If you can’t find any of those, you can pay inside the vehicle itself but remember – you can only use your card and pay via contactless payment! The ticket won’t be printed, and it will stay on your card for the next 72 hours in case of a ticket control.

There is also a very useful website if you want to travel by train. You just need to fill out " from" (for e.g WARSZAWA CENTRALNA - main station in Warsaw) and " to" (WROCŁAW GŁÓWNY - main station in Wrocław) fields and the program will find you the best connection and the time of departure.

Public transport fares:

  • Single-trip (regular fare) 4,60 zł

  • 15-minute, all lines within and outside city limits (regular fare) 3,20 PLN

  • 30-minute, all lines within and outside city limits (regular fare) 4,00 PLN

  • 60-minute, all lines within and outside city limits (regular fare) 5,20 PLN

  • 90-minute, all lines within and outside city limits (regular fare) 7,00 PLN

If you often use trams and buses, it is a good idea to apply for the URBANCARD or, during the academic year, activate URBANCARD throughout your student ID. There are separate ticket machines at the bus and tram stops where you can put your student card and buy a discounted semester ticket which is 245 PLN for five months (one semester). Therefore, a student card will also be your URBANCARD. There are other options available as well.

To apply for the URBANCARD please visit their website.

998 - fire department

If something bad happens, you should phone the police or go to the nearest police station. You cannot expect the policemen to speak English fluently, so if you don't feel comfortable with your Polish skills, ask a Polish friend to go there with you. If there is nobody to go with you, remember that the police are obliged to provide you with a sworn translator.

We know that many of you will take a trip to the Polish mountains. In the Tatra, which are over 2000 meters high, you should be especially prepared to contact the mountain emergency service GOPR if things go awry. Always have your mobile with you and in case of emergency call 0601 100 300. There is also an emergency service in the lakes area, Mazury: 0601 100 100 (Mazurska Służba Ratownicza).

If you lose your passport, you have to contact your embassy to get a replacement. Keep a photocopy of your passport (pages with your picture and visa) just in case. If you lose any of your home country documents - passport, ID, Student ID - you will need to obtain a police certificate for this. You can get one at a police station.
