EDUCATION PROGRAMME - EEA Grants

Education Programme EEA grants, logo of the programme

In the period from 01.04.2022 to 30.09.2023, the University of Wroclaw is implementing the project of the Education Programme under the "Mobility in Higher Education" component, project number EOG/21/K2/W/0016_EOG.430.81.2021.

The project benefits from a grant of EUR 100 869,68 received from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Grants - Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. The aim of the project is to carry out student exchange, outbound and inbound mobilities of students for semester or annual studies and university staff for teaching and training visits between the University of Wroclaw and partner universities in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

The main objective of the Programme Education is to reduce economic and social disparities within the European Economic Area (EEA) and to strengthen bilateral relations between Poland and the Donor States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) at all levels of education.

The three Donor Countries cooperate closely with the EU through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). The donors have provided €3.3 billion through consecutive grant schemes between 1994 and 2014. For the period 2014-2021, the EEA Grants amount to €1.55 billion. The priorities for this period are:
#1 Innovation, Research, Education and Competitiveness
#2 Social Inclusion, Youth Employment and Poverty Reduction
#3 Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy
#4 Culture, Civil Society, Good Governance and Fundamental Rights
#5 Justice and Home Affairs

• EEA Financial Mechanism funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, called Donor Countries, support the exchange of students and staff between these countries and Poland;

• The programme offers students and staff of the University of Wroclaw an increased grant to cover high living costs during student exchange or weekly visits of staff, as well as a grant to cover travel costs from Poland to the Donor Countries

• UWr students recruiting for an exchange to study in Norway or Iceland may receive a grant from the EEA Grants (instead of the Erasmus grant)

Recruitment for mobilities (students for studies, staff for teaching or training) takes place in parallel with recruitment under the Erasmus+ programme. Students of the University of Wroclaw interested in going to study under the Education exchange programme – EEA Grants are subject to the same recruitment procedure as in the case of exchange studies under the Erasmus+ programme. Both the implementation of mobilities as well as procedures and recognition after return are carried out in the same way as in the Erasmus+ programme. The persons responsible for recruiting students are Faculty and Departmental Coordinators of the Erasmus+ programme.

Staff members of the University of Wroclaw who would like to apply for a teaching or training mobility under the Education programme to one of the partner universities are subject to the same procedure as other staff members applying for a mobility under the Erasmus+ programme.

The amount of the grant rate in the Education Programme - EEA Grants is higher than in the Erasmus+ programme.

Subsistence grant:

• students from Poland to Donor Counties: 1200 EUR/month

• students from Donor Counties to Poland to: EUR 1000/month

• staff members from Poland to Donor Countries: 250 EUR/day

• staff members from Donor Countries to Poland: 150 EUR/day
