Objective: 

- getting acquainted with the basis of good laboratory practice connected with safety
- practical ability of conducting an experiment in a safe way and working in a laboratory
- getting acquainted with the basic of substance management and prevention of chemical
risks
- demonstrate and assess safe laboratory practices
- perform the basic laboratory techniques and operate the instruments
Acquired Knowledge
Student:
Knows the principles of safe work in a chemical laboratory, management of chemicals
Knows the principles of safe operation of laboratory equipment
Recognizes and formulates risks and hazards in a chemical laboratory
Knows the systems of chemical labelling
Acquired Skills
Student:
Analyzes and applies documentation comprised in the SDS charts
Chooses indispensable information for individual designation of reagents, chemical labels
Is capable of practical safe chemical experiment planning
Is capable of applying incident prevention systems

Consciously verifies his/her professional competences
Is responsible for work conducted in the chemical laboratory
Is able to organize and supervise team work in a chemical laboratory

Contents: 

European regulations and directives relevant to chemicals and their implementations into national legislation, REACH regulations

The classification, labelling and packaging of chemical substance (chemical labeling, Hazard Identification System, pictograms and the rules of order, signal words, hazard statements, precautionary statements)

SDS - description, analysis, examples

General categories of hazardous chemicals, analysis of charts of hazardous substances, identification and qualification of risks

Chemical experiment planning, organization of work in a laboratory

Laboratory safety management

Risk management (personal protective equipment, chemical spill prevention, waste collection, safety equipment, chemical handling and storage, incompatible chemicals, hazard rating, highly toxic chemicals, waste disposal)

Risk reduction systems, procedures of conduct in hazardous situation

Individual planning and preparation of chemical experiments.
